Every elite athlete at the top of their sport, who is able to consistently improve their performance results, has mastered skill acquisition. It is fundamental to consistent, high-performance. In this workshop we explore what the experts in skill acquisition are doing, how this links ultimately to self-awareness and self-regulation, and how to further develop this within your own sports program.

At its core, skill is a practiced and learnt behavior which can be executed under pressure. Every athlete you coach has varying levels of this skill and our role as a coach is to improve this. This workshop looks at the most effective coaching strategies to help your athletes develop skills which can be performed under pressure.

Using research from a variety of sports as well as understanding the different learning strategies we have available to us, this workshop gives you real life tools to use in your program. It is guaranteed to help you achieve better results with your athletes.

Learn about concepts such as guided discovery and questioning principles to help your athletes learn and become more effective decision makers. We also link this to the different styles of coaching which is demanded if you are to create a learning environment for your athletes.

The key learning objectives for session participants are:

  • Understand your own coaching and learning style so you can adjust to the needs of your athletes.
  • Develop knowledge of what creates a learning environment.
  • Understand the importance of allowing your athletes to make their own decisions and create solutions to the problems they encounter.
  • Discover the Stages of Learning model and be able to identify where your athletes are positioned within this model and how to take them to the next stage.
  • Learn to create activities to influence the learning outcomes you want to achieve without explicitly directing your athletes.
