GET INVOLVED

Are you a Basketball, Field Hockey, Ice Hockey, or Rugby Union Coach?

The purpose of this study is ultimately to be a useful and relevant reference for coaches. It draws on coaches’ experiences, opinions, and expectations, to evaluate what they want in key playmaker positions for their sport. While initially focused on basketball, field hockey, ice hockey, and rugby union, the principles and benefits of this research can be extended to other sports in the future. The application of this research can be used in coach education, game strategy, player selection, and development programs. If you agree to participate in this study, you will be asked to complete two stages of data collection which will take approximately 20 to 30 minutes in total. One of the benefits of participating is that you will receive your own CoachDISC Profile (at no cost to you!), and of course the enormous sense of contribution to developing coaching (and my gratitude!). Please contact me using my university email emh031@student.usc.edu.au and identify whether you are a Basketball, Field Hockey, Ice Hockey, or Rugby Union coach in the subject line. I’ll then be in touch to welcome you into the research study.

Using Concepts from Self-Determination Theory to Enhance the Application of an Already-Existing Coach Assessment in Youth Coach Professional Development: Autonomy Support and the CoachDISC Profile
by Jody Langdon, Diane Benish, & Elizabeth Masen. Published in the International Journal of Kinesiology in Higher Education.
Grounded in self-determination theory, the purpose of this study was to determine the existence of autonomy-supportive coaching characteristics within the CoachDISC Profile evaluation system. Expert researchers in autonomy support with a familiarity with sport coaching were recruited for this study. Participants had on average 12 years of experience in working with self-determination theory in both research and applied settings. Read more about the findings here
