Keynote Presentation: Understanding Conflict in Sport
… and Why it is a Sign of Successful Teams
Important Announcement
This page and section of the website is currently being renovated. Please excuse the current state but we have left the information for reference. Contact us if you have any inquiries.
Conflict is a part of any team, and in fact life in general. Conflict within your team can either make or break your season. When dealt with effectively and productively, conflict can create stronger bonds between team members, reinforcing acceptable behaviors linked to values which see your team competing at their best. However, the opposite is also true.
Poorly managed conflict divides a team, destroying bonds and ultimately depleting trust. Lack of trust within teams is always a key factor in unsuccessful teams.
In this presentation, discover a model for managing conflict in a productive manner. Also, learn how you deal with conflict and develop strategies for adapting your style to suit different situations.
The key learning objectives for the session participants are:
- Identify the causes of conflict within teams and how to manage various issues.
- Find out how to be proactive about preventing inappropriate conflict.
- Discover the Conflict Model and how different people ‘do’ conflict in different ways.
- Learn how to have a tough conversation with athletes and others, so conflict can be brought into the open and managed productively.
