The Millennial Challenge

Viewing by Athlete Assessments’ clients only – by invitation only

The below video is for viewing by invitation only, for Athlete Assessments’ clients. It was recorded at the 2017 Australian Football League National Coaching Conference in Melbourne. Bo Hanson presented as a keynote speaker on the challenges and solutions for coaching millennial athletes.

For your reference, the speaker immediately before Bo was Ange Postecoglou. Ange is the Head Coach of the Australian national men’s soccer team, and Bo refers to some of Ange’s presentation to tie together some of the key concepts they are aligned on. Enjoy the video presentation and we always welcome your feedback.

An overview of the Millennial Challenge presentation:

Today, more than ever, Coaches recognize one of the key reasons for the success (or failure) of their season is their ability (or inability) to engage their athletes. What has previously ‘worked’ with past teams, isn’t working anymore which can be frustrating for experienced Coaches. This younger generation of athletes are growing up in a time significantly different to earlier generations. These differences can either help or hinder you as a Coach.

This presentation outlines how this generation is different, why this represents a challenge and what we as Coaches can do to better connect and understand our players so they can be better team members and perform in our sport.

Your presenter, Bo Hanson, has been working within sport and the business sector for over 20 years, delivering leadership, management and Coach development. In addition to his own athletic career, comprising of four Olympics and including three Olympic medals, he has worked for many years with Coaches and athletes from over 40 different sports, and various countries, to improve coaching strategies and performance.
